地名与历史[edit]

村境内有一座山，山上遍植杉树，村民又在山麓修建了一口池塘，村名由此而来。[1][3]

为与隔江相望的村庄相区别，当地也称本村为“鱼池杉塘”。[3]

杉塘大队设于1963年，杉塘村委会设于1984年。[1]

祠堂与庙宇[edit]

村中有陈氏、吴氏两座宗祠，另有五帝庙、狮公庙、大王宫等庙宇。[2]
