村名取自村子地处小箬乡中部的地理位置。[1]

全村共476户，合计1652人，男性897人、女性755人，党员52人。土地总量约1.4万亩；水田1650亩；绿化林地约1.2万亩，其中生态林8000亩，果木（柑桔、橄榄等）3500亩。[1]

全村分为3个村民小组，分布于中平、坪坡、董坪三个自然村，村部设在中平自然村。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

1964年以后另设中平大队；1984年成立中平村村民委员会，此后延续。[1]

荣誉[edit]

福建省爱卫办在2021年11月把中平村定为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
