洋里乡位于闽侯县西北部的山区，东面与大湖乡相接，西面与闽清县相连。乡名取自群山之间的一片平地。1997年5月1日，原乡内八个行政村划出，另设小箬乡，洋里的辖境由此缩小。[1][3]

地名由来[edit]

当地人把群山中间的平地叫作「洋」，古称「洋里六墩」，后简称「洋里」。[2]据博雅地名网，明代永乐年间有人从江西、河南等地被派来此处，之后在这一带聚居，绅带、新见、岭兜等处都是其聚居之地，群山环绕的中部是平坦的谷地，于是有了这个名字。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地旧属侯官县。解放前一度隶属大湖六区，当时称洋箬乡；解放后先归第九区，1951年4月另设第十一区，区公所设于小箬村。[1][4]

1956年起，洋里与廷坪、大湖一道归雪峰区管辖。1958年成立洋里人民公社；1984年7月公社撤销，改设为乡。[1][4]

1997年5月1日，原乡内八个行政村划出，组建闽侯县小箬乡。[3]博雅地名网的沿革部分则记此事为1996年。[1]

地理环境[edit]

乡境位于闽侯县西北部的山区。北面与闽清县下祝乡接壤，西面与闽清县东桥镇相连，南面与白沙镇及小箬乡相邻，东面与大湖乡相接。[4]

经济[edit]

截至2019年末，工业企业共7家，其中规模以上的占3家；综合商店、超市中营业面积超过50平方米的有4家。[4]
