村名“竹西”取自它在乡驻地以西的方位。[1]
1984年以后，村民委员会设立，村名沿用至今。[1]
经济[edit]
村民以农业种植和水产养殖为主要生计。[1]
竹西砖瓦厂成立于1985年，属村集体经济。[2]
本地选育的橄榄品种之一叫“青果一号”。[2]
