菊潭村是潭头镇下辖的行政村，位于镇区中心。村子东接霞江村，西接潭头村，南靠大宏村，北面临近古代要塞文石港，远眺白猴屿。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

村前海边有一块石潭，背靠菊花山，故名菊潭。史书称此地为菊潭境，旧属方安里。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年初期，菊潭与潭头、霞江、福星、文石同属潭头乡。1987年，菊潭与文石各自成立村委会。[3]

地理与水系[edit]

村中一条河从寺下闸向西流至潭头港闸兜，全长约3千米，可直通东海，古时称作玉带河。村左有大石形如螃蟹，村后的牛仔山形如卧牛。[2]

姓氏与侨乡[edit]

村民多为开闽忠懿王的后裔，宋代宝祐年间（1255年）自平坑迁居菊潭。村民侨居海外及港澳台地区者众多。[2]

建设[edit]

村前建有朱熹十字街，街心立有朱熹石像，是潭头镇区的商业中心。[2]
