历史沿革[edit]
刘氏原居潭头，明代迁至此地。[2]
清道光十年（1830年）修起山边刘街，街面全用石板，分直街、横街与新街，属长乐北乡东部的集镇。此后莲柄港与陈塘港相继开通，水陆交通改走新道，金峰街随之兴起，山边刘街渐趋冷清。[2]
1980年，山边刘生产大队成立；1994年，它改组为山边刘村委会，至今沿用。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
山边刘山上一块高约50米的崖壁刻有「魁山洞」三字，相传为仙人张果老所书。[2]
湖山堂创建于元泰定二年（1325年），上世纪90年代修葺过一次。清光绪十一年（即1885年）兴建了刘氏宗祠。沙塘玄帝庙的渊源可上溯到唐代，现已迁建他处。[2]
村内现存清代典当行古厝，经修缮后用作文旅产业的场所。[3]

村子以调味蔬菜种植见长，葱、蒜、芹菜等运往全国各地销售。[2]
荣誉[edit]
山边刘村于2021年11月获得福建省爱卫办授予的「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
