湖南社区位于湖南镇镇区一片平地上，金湖线穿境而过，距金峰约2公里，毗邻福州长乐国际机场。[1]

社区是镇内唯一的居民区，由机场建设时迁来的居民组建而成。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1992年，国务院批准在长乐与湖南两镇境内兴建福州长乐国际机场，机场用地内的住房村落需要搬迁。[1]

1993年底，搬迁居民迁入此地，初称湖南新村，后改为湖南社区居委会，沿用至今。[1]

设施与发展[edit]

新村文化中心于1997年落成，面积998平方米，同时开办敬老院，并配有图书室、阅览室和健身室。[2]

1998年，社区建起农贸市场；2000年，社区兴办双语艺术幼儿园。[2]

荣誉[edit]

福建省爱国卫生运动委员会于2022年12月授予社区「2022年福建省卫生社区」的称号。[1]
