地名由来[edit]
大乘寺与爱同寺建成后，寺中僧众众多，对蔬菜与花卉的需求很大，而寺周山深林密、土地瘠薄，不利于种植。于是人们在南面约一公里处、鹿溪东岸辟出园地，垒土围圃，村落由此形成，故称园中。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
宋代《三山志》记载，梁大同六年（540年）建大乘寺，大同十二年（546年）建爱同寺。大乘寺建成后，东山一带的村落渐次兴起。[2]
唐景龙元年（707年）又兴建圣泉寺。唐永泰元年（765年），樵夫蓝超发现了榴花洞。[2]
村委会成立于1986年。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
圣泉寺大殿位于园中村，始建于唐景龙元年（707年），现存一座大殿与一口明代水井（圣泉井），大殿面阔五间，穿斗式木构架，单檐悬山顶，为明代建筑。大殿于1995年4月公布为区级文物保护单位，圣泉井为附属文物。[3]
