地名由来[edit]
此地在远洋古山西侧，故称远西。博雅地名网还记述，此地北倚古岭，面向闽江，周边是旱涝保收的良田。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
来自阮、董、郑、陈四大家族的人先后迁居此地，聚成古老村落。[1]
村委会成立于1981年9月。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
新西境旁立有远西募建重修福缘善庆碑、远西范祠碑与远西奉勒碑，三碑均为清代所立，属文物点。[2]
