历史沿革[edit]
旧时这一带归侯官县管辖。到了民国，此地先为上渡镇，待仓山设立行政区后又改为上渡保，下设十七个甲；新中国成立后保甲制度取消。[1]
街道的建置经历了几次变动：1950年先设居委会，1955年升为街道，1960年并入人民公社，1962年又复为街道，1968年一度称红星街道，直至1978年才恢复上渡之名。[1]
1988年1月，对湖街道由原上渡街道与原水上街道调整而设，上渡街道的辖区随之划出一部分。[3]
地理环境[edit]
街道东面以三县洲引桥与对湖街道相接，南边靠南二环高架桥，西面以尤溪洲大桥为界，北面沿闽江航道中线与仓前街道相邻，江心公园也在其范围之内。[2]
博雅地名网载辖区面积为2.415平方千米，街道办事处网站则称近3平方千米，两者取值不同。[1][2]

据2025年5月发布的街道办事处介绍，常住居民约3万，另有约2万流动人口。[2]
教育[edit]
辖区内有公立幼儿园1所，公立小学3所，中学2所，另有特殊教育学校2所。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
望北台真武庙旧址位于红星社区黄柏岭一带，是明嘉靖五年（1527）由陈京主持营建的庙宇，供奉道教正神真武帝。陈京为台屿人，嘉靖元年中进士第二名，后官至大理寺正卿与金华知府。[4]
檀越境闽王庙位于灰炉巷（檀越境），占地约500平方米，庙中供奉闽王王审知。该庙为明代建筑，现存两进院落与悬山顶，其戏台已经改建。[1]
