福新社区处在水部街道的东北部，东侧即晋安河。社区名称取自辖内的福新路。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

民国初年，许世英任福州巡按使时开辟了一条公路，称福新路，由水部起，直至南公园为止，走向南北。解放后改革开放，又自水部向东修至鼓山麓，亦称福新路。[1]

社区1963年即已设立；2001年，福新居委会与泮洋居委会合二为一，组成今日的福新居民委员会。[1]

地理环境[edit]

社区东面临晋安河，西面以新洋巷与建华支巷口为界，南面为古田路，北面为福新路。[1]
