历史沿革[edit]
五代后梁开平二年（908年），闽王王审知修筑夹城，城东南设美化门，门东侧又建一座内城门，门旁临琼水，称水步门。明代以后读音演变为「水部门」，街道因此得名。[2][3]
1955年5月，水部与高桥两个居民委员会合并，组成水部街道，隶属大根区。次年5月，大根区的辖地并入鼓楼区，街道遂改归鼓楼区管辖。[2]
1960年2月，街道改设为水部街道公社；1963年4月复设街道。其后1968年一度更名五一街道，1969年4月划归郊区。1970年2月郊区撤销，街道转入红卫区（即原鼓楼区）。1980年1月，水部街道的名称重新启用。[2][4]
地理环境[edit]
街道位于鼓楼区东南部，东面紧邻晋安河。西界沿海底支路、五一路口，直到五一北路；东西河和琼东河构成南界，福新路在北侧。[1]
街道辖区面积为1.297平方千米。[1] 鼓楼区行政区划表所列面积为1.31平方千米。[5]
人口民族[edit]
截至2024年底，街道常住人口为35923人，其中流动人口12139人，居民总户数为12604户。[1]
经济[edit]
辖区商务楼宇较多，闽投大厦、正祥中心、福晟财富中心等分布在五一路、古田路一带。古田路一带有工行福建省分行、邮储银行福建省分行等金融机构，人称「小金融街」。[1]
文化[edit]
辖区温泉水源埋藏较浅，水温较高，含硫不多，水质优良。历史上，本地温泉以「民汤」「文人汤」著称。[1]
街道内仍保留新泉井、燕泉井等温泉井。除德天泉澡堂等老字号澡堂外，近年又有福龙泉、松有泉等新式温泉体验场所。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
高陞桥建于清康熙四十八年（1709年），是辖区保存至今的古桥。[1]
林纾故居位于莲宅社区内，为清代传统民居，建于清咸丰二年（1852年），屋宇朝东，由门廊、天井、厅堂与厢房等部分组成。1993年定为区级文物保护单位，2015年又被列为福州市级文物保护单位。[6]
