历史沿革[edit]
该社区早先叫孝义居委会，名字来自辖内的孝义巷。这条巷旧称朝仕坊，宋代朱敏元住在这里，附近还有石井巷，因此也被叫作小石井巷。据传巷中蔡、赵两家都愿意各让三尺地以成巷，这份孝义令人感念，巷名由此而来[1]。
1968年，它一度改称为民居委会，1978年复名孝义。1992年，辖内大部分巷道拆建为竹林境新村，于是改称竹林境居委会[1]。之后它与津泰社区合并，博雅地名网作2012年，百度百科作2013年底[1][2]。
东街的王仁堪故居，其保护范围西延至竹林境新村[4]。
2024年1月，社区被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」[1]。
