村处新街街道东南，东面与瓜沥镇八大村毗连，南面和衙前镇吟龙村接界，离杭州萧山国际机场约4.5公里。[1]

村名的由来：村址原为钱塘江滩，农民来此开荒筑堤，称横新塘，曾名新塘大队，1985年8月改称现名。[2]

村址原为钱塘江滩，农民来此开荒，筑堤建塘，早期称横新塘（又名徐家塘、周家塘），曾名新塘大队。1985年8月改称现名，当时萧山还有新塘公社。[2]

地理环境[edit]

村域面积1.25平方千米，辖16个村民小组，据2022年发布的村概况，农户共748户；常住2913人，另有流动人口近4300人。[1]

人口民族[edit]

村下辖6个党支部，共有党员121名，村三委人员7名。[1]

经济[edit]

村内有企业105家，五金机械与轻纺塑料是特色行业。[1]

文化[edit]

新塘头村曾获浙江省卫生村称号（2021年度）。2022年10月，村入选2022年淘宝村名单。[2]
