金山西苑社区隶属北干街道，前期于2008年3月起筹建，2011年3月正式成立。社区所在位置紧挨金城路的尽西端、金山路的西侧，名称由此而来。[1][2]
辖区由博语华庭、绿洲嘉园、星河景庭公寓、君悦丽景公寓4个住宅小区和中冠置地大厦一座商住写字楼组成，总户数2228户。[1]
社区户籍人口约1500人，流动人口在900人上下，党员在册76人。[1]

社区先后获「浙江省绿色社区」「浙江省体育先进社区」「浙江省民主法治社区」「杭州市文明社区」等荣誉。[1]
