古荡街道是浙江省杭州市西湖区下辖的街道，街道办事处由区人民政府设立，承担辖区内的政府服务与管理工作[1]。地名的由来，据博雅地名网所载：古时此地是南漳湖的一片湖区，水道交错，渔塘遍布，远看形状像个“古”字，因而有了古荡之名[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

1950年6月，此地设古荡、花园亭2乡，隶属西湖区。1953年，古荡、花园亭两乡与拱墅区的塘河乡合并设为古荡区，1956年撤区，2乡合为古荡乡[2]。

1958年改设古荡公社，1960年归并于西湖公社，1963年又从西湖公社析出，重新称古荡公社。1984年，此地改称古荡乡；1986年由乡改为镇[2]。

2002年，镇一级建制撤销，改设街道；辖区内数个行政村也在前后几年间撤村建居[2][4]。

南宋时，西溪辇道由这里起步，供皇帝车驾前往余杭洞霄宫时专用，据博雅地名网所载[3]。
