独城社区位于拱墅区东北侧，东侧与杭州钢铁集团相接，南靠计家社区，北靠吴家墩社区。社区2009年12月撤村建居，辖区面积0.54平方千米。[1]
据博雅地名网，明末清初此地称独陈村，四面环水、与外界隔绝而似孤城，遂改名独城。[1]

建国初期此地为杭县独城乡的独城行政村。[1]

社区南侧是一座285亩的生态公园，社区内另有卫生服务中心和老年活动中心等机构。[2]
