大塘巷社区处于杭州市拱墅区，属米市巷街道管辖，东面临运河，西面靠近湖墅南路，南至文晖路。[1][3]

社区名称来自境内的大堂巷。博雅地名网记有一则传说：此地曾因地动陷成环形凹地，积水成塘，冬暖夏凉，人们因而在此安居。[1][5]

博雅地名网的历史沿革一节记，社区于2001年4月由原大塘新村、清河闸两个居民区组建；百度百科则记为2000年4月成立。[1][3][4]

叶青苑小区旧改项目入选「2020年度中国城市更新优秀案例」。[3]
