皋塘社区位于彭埠街道西部，京杭大运河穿过社区中部，北邻火车东站所在片区。社区总面积1.138平方千米，设8个居民小组，户数821户，常住人口3225人。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

据2018年杭州网的报道，此地原名「甘棠」，因一棵百年老棠树得名。清代乾隆进士翟灏在附近创办东皋诗社，此后遂称皋塘。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

解放初期，皋塘一带被「官河」环绕，河塘众多，鱼种养殖曾闻名远近。城市扩展后，河道逐渐被填埋，村中的桥梁也随之消失。[3]

2018年，皋塘区块整体征迁。社区位于杭州东站附近，被视为该地区最后一片城中村。[3]

历史建筑[edit]

皋塘西二区有一处高家老宅，始建于清末，为小青瓦双坡屋面的宅院，东西两侧有马头墙，木梁柱和部分雕花木窗保存较好。2011年，该宅被收入杭州市第六批历史保护建筑名单。[3]据村民高招凤说，老宅由其祖父高阿兵于1903年建造，现存3间清末老宅仍由高家后代保留。[3]

社区服务中心将民政、劳动保障、暂住证办理与医疗服务集于一处办理。2006年，社区获杭州市文明示范社区称号。[2]
