水湘社区在四季青街道东北部，东侧以运河东路为界，西侧是三新路，北面是严家弄路，南面到昙花庵路，与三堡社区相接。辖区面积约0.8平方千米，京杭大运河穿越整个社区。[1][2]
社区得名于村旁的水湘湖。村内原有一条通钱塘江的小河，潮水到来时河中发出响声，人称水响河；民国时谐称水湘浮，后小河淤塞成水塘，称水湘湖，村以湖得名。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
水湘行政村旧辖7个自然村。1956年组成农业合作社，隶属新塘乡；1958年为生产队，隶属笕桥人民公社；1961年为生产大队，隶属乌龙公社。[1]
1966年改名红旗大队，隶属四季青人民公社；1984年为水湘行政村；2002年12月撤村建社区，即水湘社区。[1]
居住与人口[edit]
社区2007年开始整体拆迁，之后尚未完全回迁，现由水湘人家东苑、南苑、东润枫华等住宅小区组成，西苑和钱塘府在建。社区总户数1134户，常住人口5000余人。[2]
