大学路社区位于杭州市中心，社区东界为环城东路，北界连着老浙大横路，南面到解放路，西面紧邻大学路，面积0.23平方千米。[1]

社区因靠近原浙江大学得名，此路旧称蒲场巷。[1]

大学路社区由3个居民区合并而成，合并在2000年12月完成；这3个居民区于1999年设立，分别为大学路、大河下和横河新村。[1]
