社区坐落于小营街道北面，四周依次是东河、清吟街、皮市巷和庆春路，面积为0.201平方千米。[1][3]

社区因马市街得名，该街在南宋时期是马市。社区内的黄醋园有南宋钱币博物馆。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

1954年，此地设下马、田家园、下皮、永宁院等4个居民区。2001年1月，下马、田家园、万安西苑、永宁院居民区的一部分合并，建立马市街社区。[1]
